City assesses state of municipal facilities in Delft, Gugulethu and Langa

On Friday, 26 September 2025, the City of Cape Town’s Corporate Services Portfolio Committee (CRSPC), led by its chairperson Councillor Fabian Ah-Sing, conducted oversight visits to the Delft South Sub Council offices, Fezeka Municipal Building and Langa Administrative Building to assess the overall state of these facilities.
‘Through our oversight visits, we are identifying ways to strengthen our municipal facilities, ensuring they truly serve our communities with dignity and care. Our priority is to keep improving facilities like Delft, Fezeka and Langa so they remain welcoming, efficient and accessible to all who use them,’ said Councillor Fabian Ah-Sing, the Chairperson of the CRSPC.
In Delft South, the five Sub Council offices are currently housed in a temporary structure that services up to 2 000 people per day. The committee has no refurbishment plans for the facility as it is currently considering a permanent site in the area.
The Delft South Public Library and Hall, which houses councillors for Ward 106 and 24, was also visited by the CRSPC. Beyond small office spaces, no major challenges were identified.
The Fezeka Municipal Building in Gugulethu, which the Committee hailed as a leading example of what municipal facilities should all look like, recently had a generator installed and is in the process of relocating its debtors and cash desks inside the main building’s newly renovated space.
At the Langa Administrative Building, a need to refurbish temporary structures as well as upgrade the perimeter fence, to install turnstiles, electric fencing and a pedestrian gate was identified.
‘I commend this committee for taking the taking the time to do these oversight visits. This is the third one this year. And I look forward to going through the report they compile and addressing the needs that have been identified. These visits reaffirm the City’s commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring our municipal buildings support both service delivery and community pride,’ said Alderman Theresa Uys, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services.
